30' Sport Fisherman   Boat building project

design and build of a center console offshore sportfishing boat

Construction Method

I am using what is called the "one off" method. Basically you build a male mold which is just a set of hull sections (in my case all are temporary) and fasten on battens for fairness and additional support. Then the foam sheets are cut, fit and stapled on to the mold. Then you glass up the foam while the hull is inverted then flip it over and remove the wood sections and battens and glass up the inside. If this sounds confusing the pictures will help to visualize the process.

That's right all that wood will be discarded, it is just a form to put the foam on.

I read several books discussing the one off method, but I found Boatbuilding with Baltek DuraKore by David G. Brown to be very detailed for a beginner ( me).
